Fab 5 Friday! Natural-Look Celebrity Edition
The words "gorgeous" and "celebrity" seem to be synonymous. Whether iconic or brand-new to the spotlight, there is no shortage of beautiful stars and models, or even the newly labeled Internet-Famous.
I used to think celebrity makeup was really polarizing. It seemed like celebs and models either went with Kim Kardashian-esque contouring, highlighting, drama-brows, and mega-pout lips--or completely opposite, with fresh-faced, natural-or-barely-there glow and a hint of color.
Actually? I'm finding that, outside of their acting roles, or off of the runway, celebrities have a wide range of makeup looks. A lot prefer a middle-of-the-road look for interviews and red carpet events, like smoky-eye with minimal other makeup, or bold red lips and lush lashes while letting their freckles show through.
For this list, I tried to focus on celebrities who wore a very natural, nude, or just-a-hint-of-makeup look. Or who stepped out of their usual comfort-zone of contoured perfection for a special event, and it looked fabulous!
5 Celebs Who Took a Natural Look to the Red Carpet
I kind of love both full-face makeup and natural looks. That is NOT a cop out! I can't help but admire the artistry that goes into a full-blown, makeup worshiping look. I know some people claim it's easy, and YouTubers make it look effortless, but that level of makeup is beyond me. The closest I get takes me hours, so you bet I give props to the makeup artists who can make it happen--whether on themselves, or an a client.
When it comes to celebrities though, I also LOVE seeing a natural look. I know they typically have an army of beauty experts at their disposal, so the fact that they choose to look more natural is often refreshing.
Maybe my favorite is when a celebrity who is usually full-face glam shows her natural side.
1. Chloe Grace Moretz
Chloe Grace Moretz is one of my favorite examples of looking natural and clean, even when attending the Academy Awards. Absolutely gorgeous with just the barest hint of lip gloss and subtle cheek color, I often see her favoring natural looks.
Eyeshadow is earthy and contouring seems pretty minimal. I just feel like her own natural beauty shines through. Photo by Jaguar PS.
2. Emma Watson
Known for her barely-there makeup, even all glammed up at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, she still keeps her look natural and it comes off as so elegant. Photo by Denis Makarenko.
Of course, I know that a natural look still takes a lot more makeup than non-makeup wearers realize, but still! It looks so healthy and wonderfully real.
3. Kylie Jenner
Normally thoroughly dolled up, I absolutely love Kylie Jenner's toned down looks too. This pic of her at the premiere of "Jusin Bieber's Believe" still shows her in dark eyeliner, but overall the more subdued look and tousled hair give her a casual vibe that I'm really digging. Have you seen her recent cover shot on Allure Magazine? Soooo natural, it's one of my absolute favorites.
4. Rashida Jones
Okay so Rashida Jones loves emphasizing those gorgeous eyes with lots of liner beneath those cute bangs, but her freckles show through on almost every look I see her in.
I rarely see her in heavy foundation. Often she appears with bold red lips, but here with a touch of color on her lips and she's looking genuine and absolutely lovely at the Courage in Journalism Awards. Photo by Jagura PS.
5. Irina Shayk
Model Irina Shayk is one celebrity who often goes very minimal-makeup at big Hollywood events. I love her practically natural eye makeup look here from the Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair Party. Photo by Ovidiu Hrubaru.
This list was harder to compile than I thought it would be! A lot of celebrities who I assumed wore natural looks, actually favor very heavy eyeliner at most events. When I think of actresses, I tend to remember them for their roles, and not who they really are... so when I envisioned Jennifer Lawrence, I thought of Katniss from Hunger Games, not the girl rocking smoky-eyes (and looking fantastic) at most of her interviews.
Same goes for Keira Knightley, who I thought FOR SURE would make this list, but nope! She looks incredible in heavily smoky-eyes, and even though she looks amazing in simpler looks on film, her typical style keeps those eyes smoldery, sexy, and fierce.
Did I miss any celebrities who tend to rock a simpler look?
Or who tone it down once in a while and look absolutely stunning?
