6 Iconic Celebrities Who Made Cat Eye Makeup Look Effortless

6 Iconic Celebrities Who Made Cat Eye Makeup Look Effortless

When done right, cat eyeliner makeup is absolutely captivating. These celebs were famous for their acting, sex appeal, singing - and cat eyes!

The classic look so many of us adore was spearheaded by these and other celebrities who flaunted this flirty look - that's the inspiration for this week's Fab 6 Friday Roundup! (Because 5 just wasn't enough!)

    Jane Fonda

Barefoot in the Park was one of the first movies I watched that made me actively aware of the cat eye look. I didn’t know what it WAS, exactly. Just waking up to makeup looks and styles, I was probably in junior high and channel surfing when I stumbled on this 1960s classic starring Jane Fonda, and I was instantly captivated.

    Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda rocked the look throughout her career, probably most memorably in Barbarella.

    Audrey Hepburn

The queen of the cat eye herself, Audrey Hepburn. I fell in love with her look when I was a youngster. Her quotes on beauty and her charming performances in movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s completely enchanted me.
    Audrey Hepbrun

If there were Hollywood starlet versions of Disney Princesses, Audrey Hepburn would definitely have her own castle.

    Nichelle Nichols

I can’t think of cat eye makeup without thinking of Uhura from Star Trek. Nichelle Nichols may very well have been born with cat eye makeup immaculately in place as far as I know. Her career is defined by her role on Star Trek, but my makeup-oriented memory always thinks of her gorgeous eyeliner first.

    Nichelle Nichols as Uhura

Gorgeous and always perfectly shaped winged liner was a hallmark of Nichelle Nichols’ look - along with an ultra-short miniskirt and hoop earrings.

    Marilyn Monroe

One of Hollywood’s pioneers in controversy, Marilyn Monroe was rarely seen without her signature cat eyes. I first saw her look when I watched The Seven Year Itch, and promptly found Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

    Marilyn Monroe

Judge me if you must, but I absolutely adore Marilyn Monroe’s breathless delivery and daring, suggestive performances.

    Elizabeth Taylor

Cleopatra herself! Elizabeth Taylor rocked her cat eye like she owned and trademarked it. Famous not only for her child stardom-to-sensual starlet Hollywood acting, but for whirlwind romances - Elizabeth Taylor was married 8 times!! EIGHT! The woman was a wedding junkie! Though technically she only had 7 husbands (she married Richard Burton twice).

    Elizabeth Taylor

Glamour, thy name is Elizabeth Taylor.

    Diana Ross

Starting out as one of The Supremes, Diana Ross carried her cat eye look with her to a solo career. Her huge, soulful eyes immediately draw me in, and they’re a major focus of attention whenever I watched her performances.

    Diana Ross

I was torn about including her on this list because she also belongs on another list I’m compiling of iconic celebs with the most AMAZING lashes I’ve ever seen - just look at those things!

Smoky eyes, kitten flecks, rounded eyeliner and au naturale all have their place, but a precise cat eye is still my absolute favorite look.

Did I miss anyone who batted lashes with a cat eye look?

    What’s your favorite eyeliner look?

Gorgeous Natural-Look Celebrities in our Fab 5 Friday Roundup

Gorgeous Natural-Look Celebrities in our Fab 5 Friday Roundup

Fab 5 Friday! Natural-Look Celebrity Edition
The words "gorgeous" and "celebrity" seem to be synonymous. Whether iconic or brand-new to the spotlight, there is no shortage of beautiful stars and models, or even the newly labeled Internet-Famous.
I used to think celebrity makeup was really polarizing. It seemed like celebs and models either went with Kim Kardashian-esque contouring, highlighting, drama-brows, and mega-pout lips--or completely opposite, with fresh-faced, natural-or-barely-there glow and a hint of color.
Actually? I'm finding that, outside of their acting roles, or off of the runway, celebrities have a wide range of makeup looks. A lot prefer a middle-of-the-road look for interviews and red carpet events, like smoky-eye with minimal other makeup, or bold red lips and lush lashes while letting their freckles show through.
For this list, I tried to focus on celebrities who wore a very natural, nude, or just-a-hint-of-makeup look. Or who stepped out of their usual comfort-zone of contoured perfection for a special event, and it looked fabulous!
5 Celebs Who Took a Natural Look to the Red Carpet
I kind of love both full-face makeup and natural looks. That is NOT a cop out! I can't help but admire the artistry that goes into a full-blown, makeup worshiping look. I know some people claim it's easy, and YouTubers make it look effortless, but that level of makeup is beyond me. The closest I get takes me hours, so you bet I give props to the makeup artists who can make it happen--whether on themselves, or an a client.
When it comes to celebrities though, I also LOVE seeing a natural look. I know they typically have an army of beauty experts at their disposal, so the fact that they choose to look more natural is often refreshing.
Maybe my favorite is when a celebrity who is usually full-face glam shows her natural side.
    1. Chloe Grace Moretz
Chloe Grace Moretz is one of my favorite examples of looking natural and clean, even when attending the Academy Awards. Absolutely gorgeous with just the barest hint of lip gloss and subtle cheek color, I often see her favoring natural looks.

Eyeshadow is earthy and contouring seems pretty minimal. I just feel like her own natural beauty shines through. Photo by Jaguar PS.
    2. Emma Watson
Known for her barely-there makeup, even all glammed up at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, she still keeps her look natural and it comes off as so elegant. Photo by Denis Makarenko.

Of course, I know that a natural look still takes a lot more makeup than non-makeup wearers realize, but still! It looks so healthy and wonderfully real.
    3. Kylie Jenner
Normally thoroughly dolled up, I absolutely love Kylie Jenner's toned down looks too. This pic of her at the premiere of "Jusin Bieber's Believe" still shows her in dark eyeliner, but overall the more subdued look and tousled hair give her a casual vibe that I'm really digging. Have you seen her recent cover shot on Allure Magazine? Soooo natural, it's one of my absolute favorites.
    4. Rashida Jones
Okay so Rashida Jones loves emphasizing those gorgeous eyes with lots of liner beneath those cute bangs, but her freckles show through on almost every look I see her in.

I rarely see her in heavy foundation. Often she appears with bold red lips, but here with a touch of color on her lips and she's looking genuine and absolutely lovely at the Courage in Journalism Awards. Photo by Jagura PS.
    5. Irina Shayk
Model Irina Shayk is one celebrity who often goes very minimal-makeup at big Hollywood events. I love her practically natural eye makeup look here from the Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair Party. Photo by Ovidiu Hrubaru.

This list was harder to compile than I thought it would be! A lot of celebrities who I assumed wore natural looks, actually favor very heavy eyeliner at most events. When I think of actresses, I tend to remember them for their roles, and not who they really are... so when I envisioned Jennifer Lawrence, I thought of Katniss from Hunger Games, not the girl rocking smoky-eyes (and looking fantastic) at most of her interviews.
Same goes for Keira Knightley, who I thought FOR SURE would make this list, but nope! She looks incredible in heavily smoky-eyes, and even though she looks amazing in simpler looks on film, her typical style keeps those eyes smoldery, sexy, and fierce.
Did I miss any celebrities who tend to rock a simpler look?
Or who tone it down once in a while and look absolutely stunning?
    Stay Scandalous!
