Late & Still Lovely!
A Simple, Out-the-Door Makeup Strategy
A daily makeup routine is well and good, and I adore fake lashes and gorgeous smoky eyes as much as the next makeup loving girl, but what if I’m running late?
I go to my makeup bag of tricks!
Just to be clear, when I say my makeup bag of tricks, I’m not talking about THE MAKEUP BAG. You know the one (or several *guilty smile*). I have a giant makeup organizer and a ton of multi-pocketed bags overloaded with the evidence of my makeup addiction, and that’s completely fine for when I’m not LATE-OH-MY-GOSH-LET’S-GO. I don’t want every color under the sun at my happy fingertips when I it’s either make a decision or head out with naked face.
Say You’ll be Ready in 5 Minutes… and Mean It!
Today is about having a little bag that doesn’t require 30 minutes of searching. It’s about simplicity. There’s a theory about too many choices being a factor in stress - while not true in the everyday sense (for me, at least!), I definitely do NOT want to be paralyzed by indecision looking at my makeup bag when I’m rushing out the door.
Late for school or work? Are you abut to miss the movie?
No problem! Rather than digging through your mountain of makeup, just pull out your little bag of tricks! The key is… DON’T GO CRAZY. As tempting as it is to add just one more thing, that will defeat the purpose and sabotage the trick. Less is more in this case, with the focus being on fast. Few options. High efficiency. That kind of thing.
Choose things you wear every day, but in streamlined, no fuss options.
If someone else is driving, you can take your little bag of tricks with you.If someone’s using the bathroom, you can use your makeup in the living room without turning the whole place into a beauty salon.
My Make-Up Bag of Tricks:
Need ideas? Here’s what’s in mine:
1.Eyeliner that can Double as a Brow Pencil - Non Sharpening!
I reeeeeally like to have my brows filled in. It’s the one thing I will spend a minute on if I’m 5 minutes late. Brows frame the face, and my brows make one of the most noticeable-yet-subtle differences in my look if I skip - so I don’t!
I mention a non-sharpening brow / liner pencil because I don’t want to struggle with sharpener shavings (or a lost sharpener) when I’m running late. I also love that this one includes a brow brush all in one. It makes browing in a rush effortless!
It’s rare that I don’t do my brows and wear eyeliner, so even though I’d rather use my powder kit on my brows and liquid liner, this works in a pinch. Having a combo saves me from having to look for yet another product when the clock is ticking.
Okay, it’s also rare that I don’t wear mascara, either! A quick sweep of my magic wand and I have instantly brighter eyes. What’s not to love?!
My makeup bag has half a dozen kinds of mascara, but my little bag of tricks has limited space, so I go with something small.
I have to admit… brows, liner, and mascara are like my face’s clothes!
3.Blush & Bronzer Combo with Mirror
No time for foundation, contouring, concealer, and the rest - but you can give yourself a touch of color with a quick sweep along your cheeks and jawline. Literally a few seconds!
Or there’s aTouch of Glowversion, too!
(I like this one for summer)
I love having the mirror included too, in case I’m locked out of the bathroom or stuck in the backseat of a car.
No lipliner, no lipstick, nothing that might be too dark or clash with your outfit. Just a simple, neutral gloss that enhances your smile and gives you a touch of shine.
5.A Tri-Colored Eyeshadow Palette
Skippable if you’re late, but nice to have in case I have one little second to spare. A super last-minute dinner with friends or date night? I can at least sweep on my neutrals - no smoky eye option here! Just highlight my brow bone, make an arc with the darkest color, and apply the neutral tone to my lid.
Easy. Peasy. Done!
I want to be able to easily find the makeup I use most at the drop of a hat. When I’m not running late, I definitely want more options, but I can still feel like my girly self if I hit snooze one too many times or something fun comes up while I was hanging at home with no makeup on.
Fast, No-Hassle Beauty
When it comes to creating a quick and easy makeup kit, simplicity is key. Full face contouring and false lashes have their place, but late-to-the-office is not it!
Do’s & Don’ts
Dokeep your bag of tricks somewhere else if you share a bathroom!
Dokeep it small and light - you want a 5 minute kit you can take with you if need be!
Don’tinclude options that might make you even later (a contouring kit or liquid liner for example, because I’m used to using them - but I run the risk of trying for perfect when I just need to get out the door!)
Don’tfall into the temptation of too many choices, or this will become just another bottomless pit makeup bag!
Miss your alarm? That doesn’t mean you have to go out with naked-face.
Enhancing your own natural beauty with no time? No problem!
